The Frame TV Review
Yes, we splurged on Samsung's The Frame TV! It's not that our TV or location was bad (given the layout of our living room), but I wanted to move our TV above the fireplace. However, since the wall bracket holds the TV several inches from the wall, it wouldn't be aesthetically pleasing either. Enter the solution: The Frame TV.
AFTER:
As you may have heard, The Frame TV is truly a unique way to disguise itself and pass as a legitimate piece of art. It becomes the living room attraction. My wife initially contended The Frame TV was going to look the same as a "regular TV," but admitted it looks much more realistic (whether using art or photography in Art Mode). The matted screen diffuses light, essentially eliminating reflections. Want to update your family portraits on a yearly basis - solved! Your favorite vacation photo - done! All at your control by using the TV or the SmartThings app.
Be forewarned that these TVs do come at a hefty price tag. I purchased our 55" Frame TV while on sale for nearly $400 off - last summer (2022). With Prime Day right around the corner, I would probably take advantage of the opportunity if you've been holding off for a sale.
Overall, The Frame experience has been great. It provides excellent definition, color, and sound. Of course, the reason for purchase is to use its Art Mode capability when the TV is not in use. My one gripe about the TV is its responsiveness. It's not always an issue, but it can be laggy receiving the information from the remote. Not something I would expect at its price point. Overall, I would give an 8/10, but absolutely benefits any room as a piece of art. I've actually made some of my travel photos available for purchase specifically for the Frame TV.
Lastly, I do want to mention that I saved myself a few hundred dollars by making my own frame (for The Frame). If you try to purchase an art frame for the 55 inch, it will cost around $600! I spent less than $30 on trim and lumber to create the (white) frame pictured above. It looks great without a frame, but for the value of doing it yourself, it simply enhances the look and feel.
